One of the oldest youth symphonies in the state of Michigan, Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony is recognized for the outstanding accomplishments of our four student orchestras, our encouragement of the talent and musical development of our student members, for our commitment to excellence, and for our leadership in music education.
The Detroit MYS experience is designed to complement the student's school program with additional musical guidance.
Detroit MYS promotes a high level of musicianship and a challenging musical experience in an orchestral setting for interested, dedicated students.
Young musicians attending elementary, middle and high school in the metropolitan Detroit area come from nearly 50 communities to rehearse on Saturdays at Royal Oak Middle School, September through mid-May.
Detroit MYS offers an opportunity to bring your skills to a new level with other interested and dedicated students.
All four of our orchestras rehearse on Saturday mornings at the same location and same general time. We rehearse at Royal Oak Middle School and our season starts right after Labor Day and ends early May.
Symphony, Concert and String orchestra students arrive by 9:15am. Rehearsals begin promptly at 9:30am and end at Noon.
Students placed in Junior String arrive by 9:15am. Rehearsals begin promptly at 9:30am and end at 11:30am.
We're excited for you to meet our Conductors and show them what you can do!
